Video Transcript for Review of ASA Electronics RV Air Conditioners - Advent Air Black Low Profile System - ASA88YR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Advent Air Black Low Profile 15,000 BTU RV Air Conditioner System. This low profile air conditioner unit is gonna let you replace, upgrade, or add a new air conditioner to your RV or camper. And this system includes an air distribution box with a built-in thermostat, along with a start capacitor. Now this low profile design is going to minimize wind resistance, and help to improve your fuel efficiency, while also providing a little bit more overhead clearance for your RV or camper.

This 15,000 BTU per hour air conditioner is going to do a great job of quickly and efficiently cooling down the inside of your RV or camper. And this is going to be compatible with your ducted or ductless systems. And this will be a bolt-on installation with the included hardware that you see there at the end of my table. Now this is gonna be great for your motor homes, your travel trailers, your fifth wheels. However, I do wanna make you aware of the fact that this has not been approved for use on school buses, food trucks, enclosed utility trailers or off-roading vehicles.

Now this is going to fit roofs with two and a half inch to five inch thickness, and an opening size of 14 and a quarter inches long by 14 and a quarter inches wide. And let me give you some overall measurements of this unit. Measuring from the front to back, we're sitting at about 31 inches long. The overall height from top to bottom, we're about 10 and one eight inches tall. And then the overall width, we're sitting about 24 and 15/16 inches wide.

And the air conditioner unit itself weighs a little under 70 pounds. Now let me go ahead and just slip the cover off here real quick. And I want to give you a view of the inside of this unit. So you have a pretty decent view from that angle there, but I think a better view would be overhead, just to give you a comprehensive look at the inside of our unit. So this air conditioner does feature a fan blade with a three speed motor that's going to give you ample airflow at 500 cubic feet per minute.

And this also features a condensation dispersion system, which is going to increase the cooling efficiency by managing the moisture to prevent water runoff. So hopefully you got a good view of the inside there. We're gonna go ahead and replace the cover. And as I do, I wanna let you know that our cover is a hard plastic cover, and it's a really nice piece of plastic, relatively thick compared to some of the other RV air conditioners that I have dealt with in the past. Some of those covers can be kind of kind of flimsy, kind of thin. That's not the case with this Advent Air Cover. It feels very sturdy. I think it's gonna do a great job of protecting the internal components from water and from other debris. And it's going to be very easy to remove. You're just going to remove the Phillips head screws that secures the lid to your air conditioner. And then as you can see, this will pop right off so you can do a little bit of maintenance or do a little bit of cleaning before RV or camping season begins. And then when you're ready to put the cover back on, as you can see, it replaces very easily. And then you'll just tighten down those Phillips head screws and you'll be good to go. One other thing I wanted to mention, this does have a rigid metal frame, and underneath there are thick foam support pads that you probably aren't gonna be able to see from that angle. But those pads are gonna give you great support between the roof of your RV and air conditioner. And then the gasket is going to seal the opening to prevent water seepage or air leaks. And those foam pads underneath are going to reduce noise after you have this installed on top of your RV or camper. Let's take a closer look at this side of the table here to go over the components. First we have our air distribution box. It has adjustable registers at the front and the back of the box that's gonna let you direct the air where you need it. The air filter is removable. You're just gonna pull those tabs back and that will open up this cover, and you'll be able to remove that air filter to wash it out, clean it, and then replace it. Of course, that's gonna help prevent dust and dirt build up on the fan blades. And then the built in thermostat controls are going to allow you to control the fan speeds, the fan settings, and your temperature settings. So it's gonna be very easy to use. The internal aluminum components are going to be rust proof and corrosion proof. And I just wanted to, I have this air distribution box sitting up on blocks, but let me just go ahead and try to give you a better overview look of it. So you see a register there, and then bringing this around on the other side, this is basically how you're gonna have this installed. It's gonna be up in your ceiling. See the other register there. This is about three and a half inches thick. So this will probably be about, extending from your ceiling after you have this installed, about three and a half inches or so. And speaking of measurements, let me give you some other measurements of our air distribution box. Looking at the overall width, we're sitting about 21 and a half inches wide, and then the length, about 22 and a half inches long. And then our start capacitor here is going to, as you probably know, jumpstart your air conditioner when a campsite or generator isn't giving you enough power to start your air conditioner. So this capacitor is going to fix that problem for you. This is going to be a very easy install inside of your air conditioner unit. Then you'll just connect the wires here. This is going to store energy that will later be used for your next start up. Now an electric heat strip, it is sold separately, but can also be picked up separately to add to this system to help remove the chill on a cold, frosty morning. So again, this kit doesn't include that strip, but you can pick that up separately here at etrailer.com and add that to your order. This is UL and CUL certified. We do also offer this air conditioner with a white cover if this black cover isn't going to go well with your setup. And if 15,000 BTU is a little overkill for you, we do also carry this in a 13,500 BTU rated air conditioner as well, both with white and black covers. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

I purchased this 15,000 BTU unit with the direction from customer service. I was told that it was a replacement for my original Dometic AC on my 5th wheel and that it would mount and have identical wiring.
They were very helpful and correct. It was extremely easy to replace. The mounting bolts and wiring hook up were identical to my old unit. The hardest part was getting it on the roof of my camper which actually wasn’t that difficult. I put an old piece of carpet (upside down) on the roof to protect it. I used my tractor with a front loader to lift it as high as I could then just set it up on the roof.
Once I removed the diverter/trim from the inside ceiling there are 4 bolts holding the unit in place, one wiring plug and the freeze sensor attached to the evaporator. Once that was all done it just lifted off the roof. After cleaning the roof where the old unit set, I simply set the new unit on the same seal footprint. I went inside hook up the wire plug, located the freeze sensor and tightened the 4 bolts. Don’t tighten the bolts too tight, just enough to hold it tight and adequately compress the foam seal.
The overall size of the new unit is shorter and smaller than the Dometic.

So far so good, I ordered two of these to replace my existing units.
One unit arrived damaged, but is working OK.
They seem a little noiser than the Coleman Machs.
Working good so far.

I don't know about longevity however I replaced 2 Dometic Brisk 2 systems on a camper I bought that needed a little more than tlc. It is a 2 zone Dometic system and these plugged right up. Only had them in a for a few days but they work great! Very pleased. I am hoping they last. Shipping was FAST and Etrailer kept me up to date on status. They were also very helpful with questions I had to make sure they would work with my system. I think these are actually quieter than the Dometics I replaced. Not hard to install, in fact the hardest part was getting them on the roof.

Good air conditioner, but fan won't shut off after set temperature is met

So EASY it aughta’ be CHEESY!!! Unboxed AC Unit, noticed two dents in the unit but none of the parts looked damaged or inconsistent; So I decided not to call regarding minor damage, instead I decided to install it by using two ramps I made out of scrap wood. TIP: the wooden ramps made it so simple to install the unit with minimal effort and two people. This made it a breeze to put in and I really recommend using this tip when installing your unit… The New Advent AC Unit made is so simple to plug into the dometic. This unit is made for easy installation and almost a universal fit. Great Experience at this establishment and happy with their product and selection of RV and Trailer parts. I will definitely recommend to all my fellow RV’ers! Happy Shopping! Always remember… Keep your library card updated!??????

The A/C seem to be a good value and the customer service from Britney was great. It was not clear to me that this unit didn't include all of the inside the camper components and thermostat as shown in the installation video.

by:

Etrailer folks were extremely helpful! Sheila thank you! The casing had some minor dents in the sides therefore I gave 4 stars. I was able to pull them back out. Advent needs better packaging in their boxes to protect the unit!

by:

Much more compact and lighter than original unit and came when anticipated. This unit Beatrice made sure the crossover from Coleman to Advent was compatible and right adapter was used. Love dealing with e trailer as I can speak to real people that I can understand and know what they are talking about.

by:

Disappointed, I called before ordering the female I talked to told me that my current metal flange and plastic distribution would work with the new Advent AC. Not really, I tried to use the existing flange it turned into a huge pain. I watched the video for the install and it seemed to me that the divider or plenum was included with the AC- Nope, this part also I think is included with the lower unit part # ACRG15 but.... the customer service rep wasn't sure a little disappointed. So now I have ordered part # ACRG15 paid more shipping! In final learn from my mistake customer service reps are not sure about want you need for a complete job, just order everything send back what you don't use.

by:

direct replacement as advertised, easy to do, hard part is getting it on the roof, good instructions, but I youtubed it, also to make sure I was right....definaly do it again,e trailer was great staying in touch..

by:

The replacement air conditioner works perfectly. The base plate on my original Coleman was smaller, so we have to make some adjustments otherwise everything works great.

by:

The Advent A/C was delivered in good physical condition. I have not installed it yet. UPS had it sitting in their truck on its end. I do not think that is good for the compressor. Hopefully it starts and runs with no issues when I install it next week. Fast friendly customer service and delivery. Thank you Etrailer.

by:

Great service! Great prices! I had a question and technician answered quickly and explained everything.
Boxes arrived intact. Was kept informed about when it would ship, that it had shipped and had arrived and where they had dropped it off.
Was truly great experience! Will recommend to my other RVing friends!

by:

by:

Installed unit today ad is blowing ice cold. Direct replacement for my old unit. Shipped extremely fast

Bought this to replace an older (2007) Coleman 8000 on our pop-up. Had a bit of a time installing this. Please, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and LOOK AT THE PICTURES. I had the upper duct that mounts to the roof unit installed 180 degrees off.

The converter kit that you buy with this if you're replacing a Coleman, didn't fit my Coleman panel. It's made for newer units. After talking to etrailer and the manufacturer I found I had to purchase a new control panel for inside. Another $85.

Overall it wasn't a bad job once I figured out the upper duct and the control panel issues. Unit cools well. About the same noise level as the old Coleman. It is not as thick top to bottom as the Coleman was. Think it's a little lighter after picking up both! Real test of how it works will be the trip we're taking next month.
